This was a commission piece for friends of mine. I did the drawing on very textured paper.
The customer requested baby javelina so I decided to incorporate the Gambel's quail into the scene as well.
I am not so sure the two species would be as friendly toward each other as they seem to be in this piece of artwork,
but it made a great composition.
I knew several varieties of cacti must also be included,
so the saguaro anchors the background with prickly pear and cholla filling in around the ocotillo branches.
A few rocks, along with a rather dead looking mesquite bush complete this desert scene.
Creating colored pencil artwork is a rather new challenge to me.
I am enjoying the fact that it is so relaxing to work on.
It almost takes one back to their childhood and coloring books!
Since watercolors are my first real love, this has been lots of fun to try new
forms of creation.
