A beautiful icon now completely gone by man's progress once again...The Surf City Swing Bridge has served us well and she was replaced by the upcoming very modern high rise bridge built in beautiful and quaint Surf City, North Carolina...
She was originally opened in November of 1955 and replaced pontoon boats that were escorting people to and from the mainland to the Island of Topsail.
She will be missed by those who love the nostalgia of the old swing bridges and especially the beauty of the setting sun who said goodnight to her for years upon years...
The power lines above her were a favorite resting place for the intriguing wildlife loon who sat upon her each and every evening in multitudes to say goodnight to the setting sun.
