Gullfoss is one of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls, located in the canyon of the Hvítá river in southwest Iceland It is very easy to access as part of the Golden Circle route. In Icelandic, Gullfoss means “Golden Waterfall”, because on a sunny day, the water takes on a golden-brown colour. It has two cascades, the first which is the shorter one is 11 metres (36 feet), whilst the second drop is 21 metres (69 feet). You can enjoy the waterfall either from above or follow the trail and get really close to it. Depending on the wind you might get really wet though!
