This is the trail that leads to one of the many hiking areas on the famous Chautauqua grounds in Boulder, Colorado. Every June the field at the trail head is full of red poppies. The parks department attempted to eradicate them as they are "foreign" to the natural landscape. The local artists were delighted that despite the assault, the poppies survived and one of our favorite painting locations continues to flourish.

Anne Gifford is an award winning artist and the eight time poster artist for Colorado's Bolder Boulder 10K Memorial Day Race, one of the largest road races in the United States. She began her career as a silkscreen artist. After 25 years of printmaking, Anne now works with watercolor, building successive layers of color to create her vibrant, rich, and detailed paintings.
