This historic New England icon is known in downeast Maine as the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. Since 1858, it's been on guard at the entrance of Bass Harbor and Blue Hill Bay as a faithful beacon for those navigating the Atlantic waters.

The bright red light, now fully powered by electric, originally was lit by whale oil. The setting is purely one of the most idyllic and quintessential on the eastern seaboard and has been an inspiring subject for visitors, artists, and professional photographers like myself for decades.

I've photographed this spectacular seascape every time I've been to Acadia National Park. Coming away with a prize winner is never a guarantee. On this one June evening several key factors combined in creating a colorful and stunning fine art print. The rugged and rocky shoreline is such an amazing presence, I had to set up really low and close to the foreground to be sure to include all the characters of these gorgeous natural sculptures.
