Claude Monet (1840-1926) was a French painter and a leading figure of the Impressionist movement. He was born in Paris but spent most of his childhood in Le Havre, where he developed a passion for painting. He studied at the Académie Suisse in Paris, where he met other future Impressionists such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Alfred Sisley.
In the 1860s, Monet began to develop his unique style, which emphasized the effects of light and atmosphere on color. He often painted outdoors, or en plein air, to capture the changing light and colors of nature. He was particularly interested in the play of light on water, and many of his most famous paintings depict water lilies, bridges, and reflections.
Monet's work was initially rejected by the traditional art establishment, but he eventually gained recognition and success. He exhibited with the Impressionists, including at their first group exhibition in 1874. Monet continued to develop his style throughout his career, and his later pain...
