Freighter Three is a watercolor based on a photograph by Mary Bedy -- Her Fagelgracht-2-081022. All the angles, shapes and lines are what drew me to this great photograph. The ships are so massive and the railings and stairways seem so fragile set against the huge bulk of the freighter. The perfect gift for a child's room. Thank you, Mary Bedy for the use of this photograph.!

My fascination with patterns stems from my love of numbers. While mathematics has been integral in my working career in finance, my other love is painting. The subject matter is inspired by photographs taken by friends and family. I see a photograph in terms of color, line and geometry. These qualities appeal to my sense of order and design (a fascination with numbers translated into art). There are times when a single photograph and the resulting abstract painting leads to another path -- and another painting -- and sometimes a third or fourth version from the same photo. When drawing something, I start with the shapes and then add the color. After that, and as I move along, I look for balance of shapes and balance of color and...
