This Oil painting depicts the beautiful Lighthouses of Cape Lookout in North Carolina. When creating a lighthouse scene, my focus is on the composition and atmosphere of the piece. An artist must sometimes change the actual landscape for the sake of a well-rounded composition. The simple rock formation draws all the attention to the building. It also supports the space needed for the powerful movement and action of the waves. All these different aspects produce the atmosphere of the painting and its well-rounded composition.
